Questions
Should I get a thread lift or a facelift?+
A thread lift suits mild to moderate sagging. It is done in the room under local anesthetic, you are back to normal in days, and it holds for roughly twelve to eighteen months. A facelift is surgery for advanced sagging, with weeks of recovery, and it lasts far longer. For most people in their forties and fifties a thread lift is the right first step, and several of Dr. Mauer's patients say in their own reviews it is the reason they never had surgery.
Is it surgery?+
No. There are no incisions and no general anesthetic. The threads go in through a needle.
How long does it last?+
The threads themselves dissolve within about six months. The collagen they leave behind is what holds the lift, and most people keep a visible result for twelve to eighteen months. Individual results vary.
Does it hurt?+
The area is numbed with local anesthetic first. You feel pressure and pulling rather than sharp pain, and it is normal to be sore for a few days afterward.
What is the recovery?+
Swelling and bruising are usually worst for the first two or three days. Mild swelling can linger up to a week. Most people are back to normal activity quickly, but plan around anything social in the first week.
Will anyone be able to tell?+
There are no scars. Swelling settles over the first week or two.
